Epistle to the reader
Friends and fellows,
Here I share missives, tales, essays, semi-organized notes, bothersome problems, doggerel, and takes of various temperatures—often, but on no particular schedule. If I may paraphrase Collis Potter Huntington:
We Shall Write Good Posts Here
Viral, If We Can
Obscure, If We Must
But Always Good Posts
Most of my writing is free; paid subscribers will get an occasional and somewhat more personal post.
Frequent writing topics include children and raising them well, characterizations and portraits of the good life, secular sanctity, romanticizing work to the point of folly, histories of agency, loving the internet, and being a wifeguy.
Speaking of my wife, I would strongly recommend Gena’s newsletter: Building the Builders.
As for me: I’m a philosopher, by disposition, by training, and often by profession. I spent most of the last ten years helping build Guidepost Montessori and its sister institutions.
I’m quite active on Twitter. I have various other writings and bits of content that I keep indexed on my personal site.
Your most humble but least obedient servant,
Matt
